Used to be essential...
They used to provide water for people and animals. They are therefore logically found close to the houses, and in the heart of almost every village.
With the running water’s arrival, some have been blocked or destroyed, but we still find many of them at the bend in our walks and hikes...some very old as in Plumelec in front of the Callac cave.
