Locmaria Chapel in La Chapelle-Neuve

Aller en bas

One of the oldest chapels

In the heart of the village of Locmaria, a chapel of the same name was built, Locmaria means "Mary's place", this name dates from the 12th century approximately.

Thanks to the remains of the first buildings, we can think that it dates from the 15th century. In the shape of a Latin cross, it is one of the oldest chapels in the canton. It houses some beautiful statues. It is listed as a Historical Monument.

Its calvary supports a sculpted group: on one side, Christ nailed by the hands and feet with, under the crossbar, the Virgin and Saint John; on the back, it seems to represent a Christ in bonds between two soldiers. It too is listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments.

The pardon is celebrated every summer.
